General InformationThe Hope.
Each year, we hope to assist and encourage missionaries, students and local Haitains at the various ministries we visit. By attending Creole church services, visiting nearby communities, strolling through the market, visiting homes of people nearby, we hope our EIU students grow in understanding of a unique culture while learning of God's work through all followers of Jesus in Haiti, both Haitian and non. Serving with willing hearts and hands, we seek to bring glory to God and experience the growth of Christ's Kingdom on earth. Also, for a little insight on the philosophy behind how we're beginning to do missions, check out this article & video! The History. Beginning over 20 years ago, CCH has been taking groups of students to Haiti nearly every year. We've been blessed to visit a variety of organizations & meet many wonderful people along the way. From Port-de-Paix to Jacmel and places in between, the ongoing visits have been invaluable in sharing resources, insights, and encouragement, while providing lasting memories and promoting awareness among US students about the lives of others in another country. The Location. Cercady, Haiti with The 410 Bridge The 410 Bridge partners with local Haitian leaders in Cercady, Haiti, who address the spiritual, educational, health, economic, and water/sanitation needs there. Projects are owned, operated and sustained by the community. We simply learn from & walk alongside them as they blaze the trail to help their own community. This trip's purpose is to expose students to "Christ-centered asset-based community initiated development” and efforts to carry out short-term missions in a more holistic way. (Examples of activities teams could do include English camps, assist with installation of latrines in the community, being part of community meetings as they discuss what projects they’d like to take on, prayer walks, and visits to people in their homes.) |
FutureTripIn 2017, we took a Spring Break trip to Cercady in central northeast Haiti to work with their local leadership council & The 410 Bridge. We worshipped and worked alongside Haitian Christians who are currently developing and pursuing sustainable community development to tackle issues of poverty in Cercady. Team members always return with a broadened understanding of Haitian culture from interacting with local Haitians from the area.
For our 2018 trip, we are still considering whether to take a Spring Break or a May trip. More details to come!
